Intel Atom Z520 Digitimes reports that Intel is going to suspend production of the Z series Atom processors by the end of 2009.  Note, this does NOT affect production of the poplular Atom N270 and N280 netbook processors.  It’s thought that Intel is looking to clearly differentiate the netbook, laptop, and MID segments and the Z series was too much of a gray area since it was often used in netbook-laptop transition models. Acer, Asus and MSI will still have their existing orders of the Z series chips delivered. Share and Enjoy:

TechCrunch's Crunchpad show in 'near final' design We reported earlier this month on Michael Arrington’s (of TechCrunch.com) project called the Crunchpad. Now, we have some more details gleaned by the The Straits Times . iThey state that it’s a priority to get the device out to the masses by November of this year, in time for Christmas shopping. The Singapore newspaper also got a sneak preview of the device and learns of some new specs for the Crunchpad tablet. We already new that it would be powered by an Intel Atom processor, probably an N270 or N280 and 1gb of ram.  Now we learn that it will weigh in at 2.64 pounds and have built in Wifi as well as 3g connectivity. The price is estimated around $400 in the US (no word on UK price or availability yet), which is more than the $300 he pegged in April, but the built in 3g might make up for it. Share and Enjoy:

The tiny Sylvania G Netbook offers decent battery life and can be had for a low price, but it still brings up the rear of the Netbook pack, with a small 7-inch screen, underpowered CPU, and a microscopic touch pad.

Acer reaffirms that Android-based netbook still coming in Q3

July 30, 2009

In an effort to quell all sorts of kicking and screaming that resulted from an evidently erroneous report earlier in the week, an Acer representative has reportedly reaffirmed that an Android-based Aspire One is still on schedule for a Q3 release. If you’ll recall, we first heard of Acer’s intentions to dole out an Android-laden netbook during Computex, and now it seems as if those very plans are still perfectly on track. So there you have it, folks — no need to keep pounding those heart medications. July 30, 2009

If I got a netbook with a decent sized hard drive, running on an Intel Atom processor, would it be capable of running itunes? I only need it for this and for the internet.
