Display Search reports netbooks market share. DisplaySearch reports that 22.2% of all notebooks shipped during the second quarter of 2009 were netbooks. Exactly what consitutes a netbook is not totally clear from the press release rleased by Display Search – does it only cover 10″ screens, or 11″. Perhaps it’s every ‘laptop’ with an Atom procssor – we just don’t know. There was some talk that netbook sales were increasing less rapidly, but from this data, it looks like we’re still seeing very healthy growth in the netbook market. Share and Enjoy:

I am looking into getting a netbook (samsung n120) but have no idea whether or not it is possible to load games such as Nexon’s Mabinogi or (with the help of an external disk drive) the Sims 3. Is it only the lack of a disk drive that keeps most people from gaming on them, or is there some other limitation?

Smartbook AG issues a cease and desist In what seems to be a bad case of déjà vu with the ‘netbooks’ incident, German company Smartbook AG has issued a cease-and-desist to Netbooknews.de , claiming it owns the trademark on the term “smartbook”. Smartboko AG claims the use of the term ‘Smartbook’ on the Germans news site is damaging to their reputation and a letter they sent demands that within two weeks all instances of the word be stricken from both the German and English-language versions. The Acer Aspire 1410 The Acer Aspire 1410 isn’t aimed directly at the netbook market. With 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display it’s one of the new machines that are starting to blur the lines between netbooks and traditional laptops. It’s price tag, $450 USD in the states, puts squares it firmly in the netbook market however, and will probably make quite a few netbook and laptop buyers take a long hard look. This Acer Aspire 1410 is joined by other netbook-like mini-laptops including the Asus Eee PC 1101HA, Acer Aspire 751, and Lenovo IdeaPad S12. Check out the video after the break Share and Enjoy:
