Asus Eee PC 1201N with Nvidia Ion & Atom 330 The 12.1” ASUS Eee PC 1201N has been introduced in the US already (though not available yet) and now it’s been launched in Taiwan where Mobile and Netbook have given us this hands on video (watch it after the break). The Eee PC 1201N is based on Asus’s popular Eee PC ‘Seashell’ series, which means it gets a slim, somewhat curvy design, and a chiclet style keyboard.  Hardware wise, it sports a  12.1” 1366 x 768 display, NVidia ION graphics, Atom 330 processor, 250GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, 0.3MP webcam and a 6-cell battery. No word yet on UK pricing or availability. Check out the video after the break.

Google Chrome Netbook OS With Windows netbooks already breaching the $200 mark in the States, and the relatively low power requirements for Google’s new CHrome OS (8gb SSD, 1GB RAM, ARM Processor) some are predicting that Google may roll out a program offering free netbooks. How would that work? Well, consider many other Google products like GMail, Google Docs, and even Google Search at Google.com. You don’t pay for them, yet Google still makes plenty of money by serving advertisements mixed with the product. The same concept could be applied to a cheap Google Chrome OS netbook. Google would build in some sort of ad delivery mechanism – perhaps an unbotrusive toolbar with targeted ads. If Google scaled the offer to a significant number of netbooks, they could push the per unit cost below $100 and perhaps make a return on their investment after a year’s worth of use. It’s certainly an interesting concept, let’s cross our fingers… Source: Fudzilla

CedarView coming in 2011 More Intel Cedarview news today from Fudzilla . If you’ll remember, it’s the replacement for the current Atom processor in netbooks, not due to launch in 2011. As before, it will be a processor based on a 32nm manufacturing process, be HD ready and will last until 2013. News today is that it will feature an integrated Tigerpoint NM10 southbridge as the upcoming Atom Pineview processor and the desktop version (Cedarview-D) will have a TDP of less than 10W . TDP, or Thermal Design Power, is a measurement to tell how much heat a cooling system must be able to handle, and ergo, how much power a chip will consume at full tilt. The upcoming Pineview-D will have a TDP between 12W – 15W, so it’s good to see that Intel continues to focus on saving power and therefore longer battery life. The dual-core version will be at the upper end of 15W.

Via Powered Phecda 10" Netbook Shanzai.com shows us this new VIA powered netbook from Phecda, called the PHV102.  It will feature VIA’s 1.6GHz C7-M processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB SATA hard drive, 1024×600 10.2” display, and a three-cell 200mAh battery.   A pretty standard netbook, apart from the relatively rare VIA C7-M processor but the Phecda’s main selling point will be it’s price.  It’s expected to sell in the US, for their post Thanksgiving Black Friday Sale, for just $185 USD.  That’s only a bit more than £100. Let’s hope it makes it to the UK for Christmas at a similiar price. via Liliputing

My wife bought an ACER netbook and we have a NetGear MR814 wireless Router. We’ve been trying to get the Laptop to connect however it keeps telling us that the IP address cannot be found. I’ve tried repairing network settings and ipconfig release and renew but still cannot get the laptop to hold an IP. How else can I troubleshoot or resolve this?

I have only had a desktop, never even a laptop, so I am clueless as to how you get connected to the internet via a netbook. Do you pay a monthly fee like I do for internet use on my desktop? How does it work when I’m not home, like traveling in a car? I use the computer mostly for pleasure, not for business, and obviously I’m pretty computer illiterate. Any help would be appreciated.
