I know what you’re thinking – using the word ‘powerhouse’ and ‘netbook’ in the same headline doesn’t seem right, but keep reading.  The new Asus Eee PC 1215N uses Intel’s latest  1.8GHz dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor with NVIDIA Optimus to intelligently switch between its NVIDIA Ion discrete and integrated graphics.  Sure, it’s not going to compete with your 8 core desktop machine, but this thing should be at least twice as fast as any other ‘normal’ netbook. The Eee PC 1215N will should rip through 1080p video without any problem on the 12-inch 1,366 x 768 pixel display or out to an HDTV via the included HDMI jack. There’s also Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n WiFi, integrated webcam with lens cover, choice of 250GB or 320GB hard disk drives augmented by 500GB of ASUS WebStorage, and pass-through USB to charge connected devices like cellphones when the Eee is powered off. No word on battery performance (likely about 6 hours) or more importantly, price or availability yet.  Full specs after the break. Notebook Italia spotted two new Asus 10″ netbooks via Hungarian e-tailer and some listings on the Asus support site seem to confirm the same. Liliputing reached out to Asus, who confirmed the new models and also seemingly indicated that the two new models will have a new case design (from the current Eee PC 1005-series netbooks).  The differences are more than skin deep.  There are also several different processor options including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU (with support for DDR2 memory) or the newer DDR3-capable 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 or 1.83GHz Intel Atom N475 processors.  Bluetooth 3.0 is coming as an option on the higher-spec model as well. Pricing is also expected to be a little lower at launch than the Eee PC 1005 series, but we don’t know when the UK will see them yet.  Check out the specs after the break. Just a few days ago we heard about the Toshiba AC100 – something  a little different than the typical netbook running an Atom processor.   This new little Toshiba will run Google’s Android OS on an Nvidia Tegra chipset.  Today,Toshiba Germany has posted a promotional video for this mini-laptop running Google’s Android operating system.  The video is in German, but the text on the computer is all in English, so it’s even worth watching if your German isn’t up to snuff. From the video we can see that Toshiba customized the Opera Mobile web browser instead of the default Android browser. There’s also some custom Toshiba-branded media apps for playing music and movies. You can check out the demo video after the break.

The MSI Wind U135DX (above) may look familir.  If it does, it’s because it’s identical to the current MSI Wind U135 .   But there is one important difference. This new model has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor while the original ships with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 chip.  The only real difference between Intel’s N450 and N455 chips is that the Atom N455 supports DDR3 memory, but for some reason the MSI product page for the Wind U135DX says the netbook ships with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Go figure. The rest of the specs are, a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 0.3MP camera, flash card reader, 3 USB ports, and VGA output. The MSI Wind U135DX will be available with a choice of a 3 or 6 cell battery. There’s no word on pricing or availability yet but the current MSI Wind U135 is available for £314.11 .

Gateway has officially launched the LT23 netbook and with it, an impeccable example of the standard ‘Pineview’ netbook.  That’s because the LT23 comes with just the right blend of standard netbook specs.  Namely, a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, either a 160GB or 250GB hard drive, a  6 cell, 4400mAh battery, and Windows 7 Starter.  Prices are extremely average as well, and  should range from $330 to $350 in the US. The netbook also has a multi-format flash card reader, a touchpad that supports multitouch gestures, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 3 USB ports and a VGA output.  Measurements come in at 10.2″ x 7.2″ x 0.9″ and weighs about 2.76 pounds. via Laptop Magazine

Now that the ASUS Eee PC 1201PN is selling in the States , you can expect the reviews to follow like this one from LaptopMag . As we saw in my hands on video with the 1201PN – the 1201PN chassis still has the old design seen on previous 12-inch ASUS notebooks so that means an all gloss chassis with a dimpled trackpad instead of a soft touch matte chassis and a much larger chrome lined trackpad. It’s interesting to note that overall performance is less on this new 1201PN vs the older 1201N despite having next generation ION graphics (graphics performance is improved over the first generation though). You can blame that on the “downgrade” to a single core Atom N450 processor instead of a desktop dual core Atom 330 processor. The upside is 40 extra minutes on the 1201PN – 4.5 hours on this vs just under 4 hours on the 1201N. Via: LaptopMag
