Can a notebook cooling fan be used on a netbook?

I have the Acer Aspire 1 netbook. It goes a little hot under the case. I just purchased a notebook cooling fan with USB. Can it be used on the netbook? Is the power supply capable handling the extra wattage? Please let me know so I can make a decision whether to return the purchase of the fan or keep it. Thank you very much for your response.

I use a cooling fan on my laptop which even has lights on it. All it does is take a bit more from the battery. It will not hurt your cable. :)

The USB can only pull so much power. If it wont handle the energy it needs, it wont even turn on. Pretty obvious.
