Can you install a better processor in a netbook?

I have a Gateway LT2030U netbook that I bought from Best Buy. I upgraded the RAM to 2gb which has definitely helped the speed, but I am thinking of making it better still. Is is possible to upgrade the processor to something better than the stock Intel Atom N270? If so, what would be the fastest processor for a netbook, and would it be easy to install? Thanks!

This depends on the motherboard you currently have installed in the netbook, the documentation for it should be in the box and this will tell you what the maximum processor speed you can have. I don’t think that upgrading the processor will make much difference to you though. The netbook is probably made using some other inferior components, these will cause a bottleneck and the faster processor will simple be slowed down by the other comonents anyway.

In my experience the best way forward is to buy a proper laptop/notebook.

I highly doubt it. I’ve never ripped apart a netbook, but I’m willing to bet the cpu is soldered right to the board.
