Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 Now Available In The Uk

August 24, 2010

Dell is now offering a new version of the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook in Europe, and the UK as well. For the most part, the new Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 looks a lot like the  Mini 10 But there are a few subtle differences: The touchpad now appears to have separate left and right buttons instead of integrated buttons. The 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU has been replaced with a 1.66GHz Atom N455 chip (with support for DDR3 memory). The entire netbook is now one color instead of two. The rest of the specs are pretty much the same, which means you’re looking at a netbook with a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. It’s available for 279 Pounds directly at Dell UK. via  MyDellMini

[review] Hp Mini 210hd

August 18, 2010

Liliputing grabbed one of HP’s new netbooks – the HP Mini 210HD and took it for a spin.  The model they got has a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and integrated GMA 3150 graphics. It has 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth and runs Windows 7 Starter Edition. That exact model isn’t available (yet?) in the UK, but you can the standard model HP Mini 210 starting at just £240 shipped. Some of Brad’s observations: -  The touchpad and keyboard can take a little getting used to. - Base model ships with a 3 cell battery which doesn’t provide the same kind of run time I’ve come to expect from other netbooks. - Well priced, starting at just £240 shipped. Check out the full review at Liliputing here, or the take-apart video and first look here .

Meego Linux Operating System Made For Tablets -and Nebooks

August 15, 2010

OpenAOS installed MeeGo on an  Archos 9 tablet , which originally shipped with Windows installed. The tablet has an Intel Atom Z515 CPU and integrated GMA 500 graphics. It’s actually pretty netbook-like. The main difference is there’s no keyboard, just a touchscreen display. It turns out that MeeGo works pretty well on tablets too. The only piece of hardware that’s not supported at the moment is WiFi — which is kind of a dealbreaker. But a fix for that problem may be on the way. via  GadgetMix

Toshiba Satellite T215d Stretches The Definition Of A Netbook

August 11, 2010

Laptop Magazine takes a look at the new Toshiba Satellite T215D.  It’s a budget thin & light, powered by a single Core 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K125 processor that proves to be much more powerful than the Atom processors we seen in the majority of netbooks.  It’s not quite as powerful as the full powered Intel Core 2 processors though. An  ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics chipset takes care of vidoe, and is  much more powerful than integrated Intel graphics.  It weighs just 3.3 pounds and has an attractive chrome-style design.  Laptop magazine’s  reviewer thought the keyboard felt cramped and that the touchpad buttons could have been better positioned though. Check out the full review and pictures at Laptop Magazine .

Gateway Reveals 10.1″ Lt22 Netbook – Reminds Us Of The Acer Aspire 521

August 11, 2010

We saw Gateway’s 11.6″ LT23 thin & light notebook (essentially a rebranded Acer Aspire One 721 11.6 inch laptop with a 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K125 CPU and ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics). Now it looks like there’s also a new 10.1″ Gateway called the LT22. Predictably, the newLT22 is basically the same machine as the Acer Aspire One 521 netbook and therefore  it’s also virtually identical to the LT32, save for the smaller, lower res. 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display instead of an 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 pixel screen. The LT22 is loaded with Windows 7 Starter Edition and it’s already available in Canada for $350 and $450 respectively. The Gateway LT32 is also available in the US for $450 , but there’s still no word on a US launch date or price for the Gateway LT22. via Netbook News

[video] Hp Mini 210hd Take Apart

August 10, 2010

During the ‘First Look and Unboxing’ of the HP Mini 210 HD we noted that it had a nice case which allows you to remove the bottom panel without a screwdriver. This makes upgrading the RAM, replacing the hard drive, or inserting a PCIe card incredibly easy.  Check out the video above to see it in action! In case you missed it, the HP Mini 210 HD is a 10 inch netbook that’s not only thin and light, but is also has a hi-res 1366 x 768 pixel display, which is a rare feature on a machine with a 10.1 inch screen. “When you remove the battery you’ll find two orange buttons which you can press to release the bottom plate of the netbook. You actually have to tug pretty hard to get the panel off, but the plastic is pretty sturdy so it’s save to pull pretty hard — although you might want to press and hold the orange buttons again if nothing seems to be moving.”
