China building 12 inch netbooks with Via Nano processors

Via Nano Processor It’s reported that Chinese, white box, netbook manufacturers are starting to build mini-laptops equipped with VIA and AMD processors as an alternative to the Intel Atom-powered netbooks that have become so ubiquitous in the market over the last year or so. DigiTimes reports that shift is partly due to increased demand for these processors, and partly because the VIA chips can cost as little as half the price of an Intel Atom processor. Intel also limits the screen sizes on netbooks using the Atom processor, while AMD and VIA have no such restrictions, allowing these Chinese PC makers to stretch the definition of a netbook and build netbooks with screens with 11″, 12″ and larger than 12″ screens. We’ll have to see how the AMD and VIA processors handle video output on these larger screens. Share and Enjoy:
