Google announces Chrome OS for netbooks

New Google Chrome OS for netbooks Google has announced on their blog , their new Google Chrome OS today.  Over 30 million people have already downloaded the Google Chrome browser, and now Google is focusing their efforts on a Google Chrome operating system, notably, a separate project from Android.  Here is how they describe it: Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve. The OS will support both x86 based netbooks (Intel Atom, VIA, AMD) and also ARM based netbooks.  Google also states that they are working with OEM manufacturers to get Chrome OS shipping with netbooks in 2010.  Google’s Chrome web browser will be run on top of a Linux kernel and applications are all web-based (ie. Google Docs, etc). Share and Enjoy:
