I just bought an acer netbook with windows xp on it, and i know its a bit old, but my favorite game to play on my old laptop that i sold was Halo. I bought the game in Wal-Mart, and I have a CD key, but my new netbook sadly has no CD drive. Since I already own the game, is there a legal safe way to download the game for free?

There are lots of ways to get a CD key without buying the game, and there are lots of ways to get a game without the CD key. To have legal possession of a game, you must have both the CD key and the game.
So, there is no legal way for you to get the game since you don't legally own the game.
