How can I find the password for my netbook?

I have an Acer Netbook which runs on Linux. When I bought it nearly a year ago I put in a password which I now can’t remember (I know, I know). When I try to download certain software, it asks me for this password. How can I find out what it is?

Lucky! You’re using Linux, which is a open source O.S! You should download this program called Ophcrack Live CD. Go to http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net and download it for linux and burn the iso onto a CD. Ophcrack is a password cracker. Then restart the computer and boot from the CD.
