Is a netbook in a sleeve counted as my personal item to carry on an airplane?

I know a laptop in a case is considered as one of your two allotted items to carry on a plane, but if Im just going to put my netbook (all I have for it is a sleeve that doesn’t even have any pockets) in my carry on bag after the security check, does it still count as one of my items?

If you have it out only for security to screen it and are putting it in your carry on bag afterwards it is not considered a personal item. personal items do include purse, briefcase, laptop, or small backpack; and one carry on bag (if your laptop is in the carry on bag) its not your personal item it its just your carry on bag.
