Is a netbook in a sleeve counted as my personal item to carry on an airplane?

I know a laptop in a case is considered as one of your two allotted items to carry on a plane, but if Im just going to put my netbook (all I have for it is a sleeve that doesn’t even have any pockets) in my carry on bag after the security check, does it still count as one of my items?

thavolsutti 12.28.09 at 4:25 am: If you have it out only for security to screen it and are putting it in your carry on bag afterwards it is not considered a personal item. personal items do include purse, briefcase, laptop, or small backpack; and one carry on bag (if your laptop is in the carry on bag) its not your personal item it its just your carry on bag.
