Microsofts ditches the Windows 7 Starter restrictions for netbooks

Windows 7 Launches Oct. 22 Up until today, Microsoft has insisted that manfucturers would only be allowed to pre-load Windows 7 Starter Edition on new netbooks. But, I’m happy to announcs that today Microsoft has reversed that policy, and netbooks can now be shipped with any version of Windows 7 – Starter, Ultimate, Professional, etc. We welcome the change, but still think we’ll see most netbooks shipping with Windows 7 Starter due to low cost and margins on netbooks. The primary drawbacks of Starter versus the other editions are no DVD playback, and no ability to customize your desktop wallpaper and themes.
