Packard Bell is owned by Acer, so it comes as no surprise that the new Packard Bell Dot SE,  appears to be awfully similar to the recently launched  Acer Aspire One D255 .   Netbook News.de spotted the listing for the new  Packard Bell Dot SE.CH/001 at Alltron .  Just like the Aspire One D55, it has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU.  There’s also 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. The 6 cell battery is said to be good for up to 7.5 hours of run time, and the netbook weighs about 2.8 pounds. The Packard Bell Dot SE is available in Europe for about 400 Euros, or about £300 -£350 when it launches here in the UK.

Brad at Liliputing took a look at the new Acer Aspire One 721 which is a 11.6 inch thin and light notebook (1366 x 768 pixels) powered by a 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K125 processor and ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics.  This Aspire One 721 is much like the Acer Aspire One 521 that we posted an unboxing and review of earlier. The main differences between the 721 and the 521 are a larger 11.6″ screen on the 721, which also makes reoom for a full sized keyboard.  We suspect battery life should be shorter for the 721 as well since it needs to power the larger, higher resolution screen. First impressions were pretty good.  The thin & light has a matte finish on the lid, which resists fingerprints.  There’s a large access panel on the bottom which provides access to the RAM and HD, which should make upgrades a breeze.  Overally, he seems quite happy with the AMD and ATI graphics performance-wise, but we’ll wait for the full review to make a full judgment.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard of cheap netbooks from China, but this time Dai Rui’s new offerings are almost identical to the current Acer Aspire One netbooks .  They’re virutally identical, in looks and hardware, but there is one big difference.  Price.  In China, these Da Rui netbooks sell for as little as $190 USD (about 120GBP).  Unfortunately, they’re also only available in China at the moment, but the company behind them hopes to export them to other markets. Just like their Acer counterparts, the specs for the Da Rui netbooks feature a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of memory, and a 2.5 inch hard drive. They also feature WiFi and optional 3G components, as well as a 10 inch display, Ethernet, and 3 USB ports, which are interestingly packed onto the right side of the laptop, leaving the left side mostly bare. via  Shanzai.com

Next-gen Nvidia Ion Netbooks Coming Soon

by admin on April 22, 2010

Blogeee reports that two new netbooks sporting Nvidia’s next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics might be shipping soon in France.    French retailer ‘Fnac’ currently has listings for  the Asus Eee PC 1201PN 12.1 inch notebook and the Acer Aspire One 532g netbook.  The Acer netbook is expected to start shipping on May 14th, while Fnac says the Asus laptop should be available in France by May 1st. The Asus Eee PC 1201PN features a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and NVIDIA’s latest ION graphics chip for HD video and 3D graphics. The notebook has a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 as well as an HDMI output and a 6 cell, 5600mAh battery. The laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium and will sell for 499 Euros, or about $676 — but I suspect the price will be much lower when the Eee PC 1201PN is released in the US. The  Acer Aspire One 532g has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and a less capable version of NVIDIA’s new ION graphics platform. While it will still support HD video playback and 3D graphics, it has half the shaders of the ION chip used in the Eee PC 1201PN. This will help reduce costs and energy consumption while still letting you watch HD video on a low power netbook. via  Blogeee

Acer Aspire 1820PTZ TVR-Zone forum member Denosha has managed to get his hands on Acer’s 11.6 inch touchscreen tablet netbook (the Acer Aspire 1820PTZ) and has put up a review and a few videos (after the break). Here’s a few of his main points summarized in bullet points: Heavy for a 11.6 inch notebook at 3.8 pounds.  The screen is quite thick and heavy, and can cause it to tip over at certain angles. Speaker sound was tinny and soft, but S/PDIF output will let you connect external speakers Plastic case, but good build quality.  No  noticeable keyboard flex Resistive touchscreen is sharp, but color and contrast  not great. The pressure sensitive  touchscreen can recognize either finger or stylus input. No problems with HD YouTube videos or 720p video playback, 1080P may be just barely possible. Good battery life, estimate of 7 to 8 hours of run time from the 5600mAh battery. You can check out a few videos and the full specs  after the break. Acer Aspire 1820PTZ Specs as reviewed: Intel Pentium SU4100 (dual-core, 1.3GHz) processor 2GB RAM 500GB HDD Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 6-cell 5600mAh battery
