Packard Bell is owned by Acer, so it comes as no surprise that the new Packard Bell Dot SE,  appears to be awfully similar to the recently launched  Acer Aspire One D255 .   Netbook News.de spotted the listing for the new  Packard Bell Dot SE.CH/001 at Alltron .  Just like the Aspire One D55, it has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU.  There’s also 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. The 6 cell battery is said to be good for up to 7.5 hours of run time, and the netbook weighs about 2.8 pounds. The Packard Bell Dot SE is available in Europe for about 400 Euros, or about £300 -£350 when it launches here in the UK.

[video] Unboxing The Asus Eee Pc 1015pe

by admin on June 6, 2010

With a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a 250GB hard drive the Asus Eee PC 1015PE doesn’t appear to be much different from Asus’s existing netbooks like the 1005PE.   But, the Eee PC 1015PE features a matte display (where the others are glossy), a brand new design, and a much larger touchpad than the Eee PC 1005PE . The red color is also new. Riccardo at  Eee PC.it got one of the netbooks in Italy, and has posted an unboxing video and some first impressions. Check out the video after the break for some eye candy, or if you speak Italian, some interesting commentary.

At the  Taipei show two years ago that Intel introduced the first Atom netbooks , and now, as expected, Intel is introducing the first dual-core Atom processors faimed at nebooks .  . While the details on the speeds and feeds of the new  Pine Trail N series CPUs are being kept under wraps for now, we’ve been told that they’ll support DDR3 RAM and provide comparable performance to the dual-core desktop Atom processors , yet still maintain similar battery life to current netbooks. Intel still plans to keep these Atom chips in 10-inch systems, and told us that users will see the speed benefits in multitasking and browsing, rather than in HD playback and gaming. But speed isn’t the only aspect Intel has looked at.  They’re also going to go on a serious diet. Intel also unveiled its new “Canoe Lake” innovation platform for netbooks, which is what’s behind that 14mm thick machine pictured above. The platform can support single- and dual-core Atom processors, but provides significant cooling to allow for 50 percent thinner systems. However, “Canoe Lake” is merely a reference guideline for other manufacturers to us.

Just yesterday we reported that Intel will officially launch dual core processors for netbooks. Today, Fudzilla reports that the company is suggesting that manufacturers sell netbooks with the new chips for between $349 and $399 USD. They’re also pressing for a new set of standard netbook specs, to include 1GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 32GB solid state disks, or 250GB hard drives, and 7 to 10.2 inch displays. Intel is also suggesting that single core netbooks are priced at $249 and $349 USD (which they are already).  Fudzilla suggests that dual core netbooks could hit the streets in the third quarter of 2010.

Almost exactly a month ago we speculated on rumours of a new Intel Atom Dual Core processor for netbooks and now Fudzilla reports that the new chip will be called the  Atom N550 .  Reportedly, the Atom N550 will reportedly have a clock speed of 1.5GHz, 1MB of L2 cache, and two cores with support for hyperthreading. Fudzilla says the TDP (or power consumption in laymans terms) will be 8.5 watts, which includes the CPU and integrated graphics and memory controller -that’s only a little more than the usage for the Intel Atom N450 and N470 single core chips . The new chips will reportedly hit the streets in the third quarter of 2010.

Asus ’s new Eee PC 1005PR sports a new  high resolution 1366 x 768 pixel display.  And, not only do you get the HD display, there’s also a  Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator so you can playback HD video smoothly on the HD display The laptop has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It sports 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a 0.3MP webcam, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. Asus says the battery is good for up to 11 hours of run time, which in my experience means you’ll probably get about 8 hours of web surfing over WiFi. The E ee PC 1005PR is up for pre-order in the States @ $300 but isn’t available in the UK yet, nor do we know when it will be, but it is up for pre-order in the States so we can only guess that a UK launch is imminent. via  Netbooked

Would it be smart to use a netbook to host a live stream?

April 11, 2010

I have a netbook, and I want to have it connected to a camera about 8 hours a day. Would it be wise to run a netbook for this long? It should not get that hot especially with that 1.6Ghz atom processor right?
