Intel officially launched the N470 today, but in a spec sheet for the new Asus Eee PC 1018p there’s already mention of two newer processors – the N455 and N475.  Looks like they keep the same speeds as the N450 and N470 (1.66ghz and 1.83ghz respectively) but add DDR3 ram support. The Asus Eee PC 1018P on other hand has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and comes with either a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 of 1.83GHz Atom N475 processor. You also get 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and support for USB 3.0. There’s also an integrated 3G modem (this may just be an option), 1GB of RAM, and a 160Gb or 250GB hard drive as well as a 44Whr battery. The Eee PC 1018P has a brushed aluminum chassis that measures just 0.71″ thick. Check out a photo of the new Asus Eee PC 1018p from CeBit after the break. via Notebook Italia .

Fudzilla reports that Intel will be adding DDR3 memory support to the 1.83GHz N470 and 1.6GHz N450 chips, and at the same time renaming them N455 and N475  . Both of those chips are expected to maintain their current TDP (power consumption) ratings, and both are expected to launch in Q3 of this year.  It’s certainly not a huge upgrade, and it’s only going to make a minor difference in speed but at least some progress is being made.  Now, where are the dual core netbook processors Intel!? I have a Gateway LT2030U netbook that I bought from Best Buy. I upgraded the RAM to 2gb which has definitely helped the speed, but I am thinking of making it better still. Is is possible to upgrade the processor to something better than the stock Intel Atom N270? If so, what would be the fastest processor for a netbook, and would it be easy to install? Thanks!

Thinking of buying Samsung Go N310-13GMB Netbook-Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2,160GB HDD.
I want to upgrade the ram. I am unsure about processor speed and type.
I wasn’t sure if there is a specific type of ram for netbooks.
I just wanted to make certain I purchase the right kind for the job.
Thanks for the help!

Is the asus Eee PC netbook a good laptop?

by admin on January 14, 2010

I am looking at the Asus Eee PC Netbook with intel atom processor. Would you recommend this computer? Is it really portable and most importantly does it run fast or does it crash and freeze a lot. Do you need to set it up with something to get internet or can you just turn it up and work. Also what would you recommend a HP Mini 110, or this Asus Eee?

The Intel Atom Roadmap Intel has finally revealed that it will be providing it’s next generation of Atom chips to netbook manufacturers this year, putting a lot of speculation to rest .  But actually, it’s not quite that straight forward and we probably still won’t see netbooks with the new Atom processor until early 2010. That’s because it will take that long for the manufacturers to bring the new netbooks to market.  The new processors offer little in speed increases, but do have significant gains in power consumption in size.  Replacing the current ubiquitious Atom N270 and N280s, these new Atom processors are part of Intel’s ‘System on a chip’ design, combining the CPU and graphics processor on one chip. Looking ahead, Intel has unveiled that aim to decrease the manufacturing process size by threefold again, bringing the current 45nm process used in the new Atom down to just 15nm. Share and Enjoy:

How would you change the netbook as we know it?

September 11, 2009

Netbooks, by definition, have been around for years now, and while the vast majority have left the 7- to 9-inch realm, hardly any have bothered to show up with a respectable 720p panel. Furthermore, hardly any have deviated from the strictly held hardware line , which generally consists of an Intel Atom N270 / N280 processor, GMA950 graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP and far too few USB sockets. Oh sure, we’ve seen an Ion-based machine trickle in every now and then, and AMD definitely has our interest piqued with Congo , but we’re honestly exhausted by the torrent of netbooks that just seem to look exactly like one another internally. This week’s question is dead simple: if you had the power to flip the netbook arena upside-down, how would you go about it?
