Apple iPad vs. ASUS Eee PC 1001P Netbook

by admin on April 10, 2010

Cnet , in the States, has pitted Apple’s new iPad against one of Asus’s budget netbooks  – the Eee PC 1001P ( available for £229 ).   A few things were compared – an obvious win for the iPad was start-up, or boot time.  The iPad was up and runing in 23.1 seconds vs. 50.1 seconds for the netbook.  That’s largely due to the optimized OS running on the Apple, and the solid state hard drive vs. the spinning type in the netbook.   The little Asus, however, did win in overall processing power, running the Javascript benchmark in 2,272ms vs. the iPad’s 12,591ms. The iPad was praised for it’s intuitive touch interface, and general ease of use.  Battery life on Apple’s device is great too – at about 10 hours.  Pricewise, the netbook comes in at about half the price of the iPad.  Check out the comparison video for yourself here.

Yes, it’s here again, the Asus Eee keyboard.  We know we said it was shipping in October 2009 before , and then again in February 2010 but this time they swear it’s real .   Well, this time there’s a promo video and Nettop Review is reporting (via Engadget) that the long awaited Eee Keyboard will be shipping this month. Suppposedly it will be priced at around $500-600 dollars in the States.  We’ll wait and see if it’s real, then check out the specs and find out when the UK will get it. Check out that promo video after the break.

Asus Eee PC 1001PX shows up in Italy

by admin on March 23, 2010

The £229.00 Asus Eee PC 1001P has been available for a few months but N otebook Italia has spotted a slightly different version called the Eee PC 1001PX they report will begin shipping in Italy soon.  There won’t be many differences – primarily just a differnet OS, larger battery and a larger hard drive.  The 1001P comes with Windows XP only, while the 1001PX will be available with a choice of Windows XP or Windows 7 Starter Edition. The Windows XP model will have a 160GB hard drive and 3 cell battery, while the Windows 7 version will have a 6 cell battery and 250GB hard drive. Both models will have a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail processor, GMA 3150 graphics, and 1GB of RAM. Here in the UK the  Windows XP model is one of the best netbook bargains on the market right now, selling for just £229.00 .  No word yet if we’ll see the 1001PX here as well.

I got a Eee netbook EPC1000HE and it works really good. Since it’s small, it doesn’t have a disk drive. I have to use a USB to put games or movies in it, but I don’t know how! Any idea on how I can put the Sims 2 Double Deluxe on my PC Eee netbook?
Thank you!

Call it coincidence or call it fate, but just as soon as we saw Samsung’s 11.6-inch N510 netbook go on sale across the pond, ASUS’ long-awaited 11.6-inch Eee PC 1101HA has netted itself a date with UPS here on US soil. The machine is the first in the Seashell range to boast a display larger than 11 inches, though the atypical WXGA (1,366 x 768) panel is about the only thing that’ll turn heads. Within, you’ll find an exceedingly bland array of parts: an Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM, GMA 500 integrated graphics, a 160GB hard drive (still with us?), three USB 2.0 sockets, a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth and audio in / out jacks. If you aren’t down with waiting to see what kind of netbook revolution coincides with the launch of Windows 7, you can order yours up from the links below for $429.99. Looks like those of you interested in ASUS’ newest little netbook, the Eee PC Seashell 1005HA , won’t have to wait very long to have your dreams fulfilled. In fact, it’s popping up for pre-order right now. The 1005HA (which we just played with extensively ) is nearly identical to the already available 1008HA, but with a longer-lived, swappable six-cell battery, and without those little port doors we found to be somewhat troublesome in our review of the unit . It runs $389 and is expected to ship on July 1st. Hit the read link to check out the pre-order good times.
